At Breakpoint 2024 in Singapore, Solana Mobile General Manager Emmett Hollyer took the stage to introduce Solana Mobile’s highly anticipated next generation device — Solana Seeker — and point the way forward for web3 mobile.
“We embarked on the Solana Mobile journey three years ago because we thought it was time for crypto to go mobile,” Hollyer began. “That means bringing the Web3 we all know and love — tokens, DeFi, dApps — to mobile phones, and mobile technology — stuff like GPS, cameras, and NFC sensors — to web3.
“For developers, we wanted to create a free and unrestricted app store, one without a 30% Apple/Google tax or crypto-phobic censorship. For users, we wanted to offer a cohesive web3 mobile experience, along with the most secure hardware wallet available anywhere. In doing so, we thought we’d open up a new frontier for web3, and lay a path towards breaking the app store duopoly.”
Before unveiling the Seeker, Hollyer noted the overwhelming excitement and support the Solana community has shown towards the project so far. Solana Mobile has secured over 150,000 Seeker pre-orders across 57 countries, far surpassing the initial target of 100,000 units.
And then came the big reveal…
“Solana Seeker is a beautiful mobile phone, engineered from the chip up to harmonize its hardware and software for web3,” Hollyer explained, introducing the Seeker device. “It’s more lightweight, it’s brighter, the camera has improved, and the battery lasts longer — all at a much more accessible price point than its predecessor.”
"But It's more than a phone, it's a Web3 magnet," Hollyer continued, showcasing a working prototype of the Seeker. The new device — priced for accessibility at $500 during its current Early Adopter Window, represents a significant evolution from its predecessor Solana Saga, featuring improved hardware specifications including improved cameras, longer battery life, lighter weight, and a brighter display.
Then came a tour of the new features users can expect in the Seeker device. “At the heart of Seeker's innovation is the Seed Vault Wallet, developed in partnership with Solflare to provide “the highest level of crypto security available on any mobile device,” Hollyer explained. “The new Seed Vault Wallet introduces features like double-tap transactions and streamlined account management options, including a distinct "burner mode" for added security.”
In addition to developments under the hood, the ecosystem of decentralized apps to which Solana Seeker offers access is also maturing rapidly. “The Solana Mobile dApp ecosystem has also seen substantial growth,” said Hollyer. “The Solana dApp store, which already boasts nearly 100 applications, achieved an impressive 93% user engagement rate with the Solana Saga, while Hollyer previewed the participation of projects from around the Solana ecosystem — across payments, DeFi, DePIN, NFTs, and gaming.”
2025 is gearing up to be a landmark year for web3 mobile and the wider Solana network, and Hollyer was keen to highlight the role that the Solana community has played in the success of Solana Mobile. "The story of Solana Mobile has been written by the Solana community," he said in closing. “And chapter two of that story is Solana Seeker.”
Solana Seeker is scheduled to ship in mid-2025, and preorders are available now.
